I remain convinced that as we consider the effectiveness and vitality of our churches one of the best gauges in assessing the strength of these descriptors is found in the 5 practices of fruitful congregations. Just in case you’re not aware of what I’m talking about, these 5 Practices were put forth about 10 years ago in a book by Bishop Schnase. They are: Radical Hospitality, Passionate Worship, Extravagant Generosity, Risk Taking Mission, and Intentional Faith Development.
On February 27, 2016 we are gathering at Cornerstone Church 84th Street Campus for “Creating A Culture of Hospitality Event” Jim Ozier, co-author of “Clip In; Risking Hospitality In Your Church,” leader at Path 1, and the Griffith Coaching Network, will be with us presenting the keynote address as well as doing two identical workshops on Radical Hospitality.
Workshops will also be offered on Passionate Worship: Creating excellent contemporary worship in the small church setting; Extravagant Generosity: Creating a culture of stewardship and the spiritual value of giving; Intentional Faith Development: Creating a pathway for discipleship and Christian Growth; and Risk Taking Mission: Centered around welcoming the stranger.
In addition to the 5 practices workshops we have a special interactive workshop focused on Leadership that will be led by Rev. Bob Hundley (Sr. Pastor of First UMC Grand Rapids) and Rev. Brad Kalajainen (Founding Pastor of Cornerstone UMC).
During our lunch break we will be caring for the business of the District Conference.
As I hope you can see. this is a day you will not want to miss!! Registration information is available here. Last year we had over 200 people come to this event with Bob Farr and I am expecting we will reach at least that number this year as well. Please be sure to get registered and bring several from your church. See you there!
